Children’s Ministry
Our Elementary teachers are the “Shepherds” that guide our children along the path of Christianity. You DO NOT need teaching experience nor do you need to be a Biblical scholar (in fact we expect that you will enjoy learning right along with the kids!). All you need is a willing spirit, a caring heart, a little patience and dependability.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE THAT FIRST STEP – YOU WILL NOT TAKE IT ALONE!
Upon signing up to teach you will join Children’s Ministry and the other volunteers in a training session, spelling out anything you need to know. If this is your first time teaching and are a little nervous – we can pair you up with an experienced mentor and have you help out in a few classes before doing it on your own. Teachers usually teach on a rotating basis, or if you choose you can teach 3-4 Sundays in a row and be done for that “semester” (we find that this is better as you get to know the kids and they get to know you better).
A Typical Morning
Arrive 10 minutes before service begins IN HORTON HALL (8:50am or 10:20am)
Before Going to Horton Hall: Sign in at the Super Table
Check your classroom
Get a cup of coffee
Come to Horton Hall
Sit in your grades area
Welcome the children as they arrive for Worship
Have them sign in and make themselves a name tag
Participate in Worship time while monitoring the children’s behaviors/needs and encouraging their involvement
At the end of Worship time:
· Lead the children in your class to their designated classroom (see Class Locations)
o Count the children before you leave HH
o TAKE THE FLAG WITH YOU
o Count them again upon arriving in the classroom
o Hang your flag outside your classroom in the flag pole holder
· Collect the offering
· Follow the Lesson Plan Provided:
o Open in Prayer
o Review Bible Verse
o Activity Time
§ Materials and Lesson Plan will be laid out for you:
o Core Curriculum Prayer
o Do suggested game if time permits
NPC DISMISSAL POLICY:

All children must be picked up by parent unless we have a permission slip stating they can:

Your attendance sheets will indicate who has a slip and who doesn’t

9:00 a.m. TEACHERS: PLEASE BRING YOUR FLAG TO THE SUPER STATION BEFORE/AS YOU LEAVE so we can set them back up in Horton Hall for the 10:30 Teachers.
BEFORE LEAVING:
As an overall guide....leave the room the way you found it, keep in mind that we share the rooms with the Noroton Presbyterian Pre-School teachers and kids.

9:00 a.m. TEACHERS: PLEASE BRING YOUR FLAG TO THE SUPER STATION BEFORE/AS YOU LEAVE so we can set them back up in Horton Hall for the 10:30 Teachers.

Make sure everyone has left the room before you leave (including parents). If you need Linda or the Supers help - don’t hesitate to ask.

Clean up from activities. Put what is left over in the Sunday School closet shelf.

Wipe Down tables

Second service only: Place chairs on tables in an orderly fashion. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CLOSE THE DOOR WHEN YOU LEAVE.
