Noroton Presbyterian Church
Children’s Ministry
This is a great position to “get your feet wet”. As the Super you would welcome the other volunteers and employees as they come to sign in (making sure everyone is here and has signed in). At the beginning of class time (for preschool then elementary), once everyone is settled you would go around and take attendance (include EVERYONE). During class time you are the “go to” person for bathroom breaks, supplies, discipline and information. You could also help as a greeter during arrival and dismissal times.
Superintendants
Typical Morning
Arrive 20 minutes before service begins (8:40am or 10:10am)
For the 9:00 Superintendents…get the following supplies out of the supply closet:
- the red ‘You Are Super’ binder (on a shelf when you step in to the right)
- the black intercom which transmits the service
- coffee cups
- basket of sugars & stirrers
- pencil/pen
- bell
Set the red binder out on the credenza and pull out the teacher sign-in sheet for the day. Please encourage teachers to sign in when they arrive…this helps YOU to know who is here (and who isn’t!)
Make sure all of the classrooms are unlocked:
ROOM GRADE

11 4 YEAR OLDS
12 PK-K
13 4TH GRADE
14 3RD GRADE
17 1ST GRADE
18 2ND GRADE
LIBRARY 5TH GRADE
Make sure all preschool rooms have snack supplies (extra supplies are in the closet) (inform LINDA when supplies are getting short):
- Pretzels
- Cups
- Napkins
- Pitcher filled with water
Walk down to the entrance to the sanctuary and pick up a couple copies of the bulletin for the day. These are usually sitting on a small table next to the entrance.
Greet teachers as they arrive, offer them coffee and ask if there is anything they might need for the day. Be sure to introduce yourself by name – many of us don’t know each other.
On the first Sunday of the month, remind preschool teachers that they are to bring their class to the chapel 10 minutes into the start of the service
Greet and welcome families as they arrive. Help direct them to the appropriate classroom for their children.

Shortly after the older children arrive from Horton Hall, circulate to all of the classrooms.
- Collect the offering and put it in the brown envelope in the pocket of the Superintendent binder
- Count the number of children in each classroom and record this on the attendance sheet in the binder.
Listen for the last hymn of the service to start and ring the bell outside of all the classrooms.
If you see that the service is running long, stick your head into the preschool rooms and let them know
Stay to see that the classrooms are picked up and ready for the next service.
For 10:30 Superintendents….return all supplies to the closet. Help the teachers to clean the preschool tables and get the chairs put up so the sextons can vacuum.
